The choice of diapering

The green earthy parents are users of reusable clean cloth diaper. Cloth diapers are made of a soft absorbent fabric mostly cotton. They are washable and reusable. There are basically three types of cloth diapers: diaper wrap, insert or all-in-one.

What is the best all in one cloth diaper?
All in One diaper contains a waterproof cover with built-in inserts. These inserts are stitched into the diaper, to provide the padding for absorbency. Many people love the all in one cloth diaper because they already contain the inserts for absorbency. And no stuffing is required. The inserts is usually made from natural or synthetic fibres. The diaper will fasten with Velcro or snaps. All in one diaper comes in different sizes and there are the ones that are one size diaper. The all in one diaper is excellent for the daycare. All in one diaper is usually a bit more expensive than the other cloth diapers however they are usually cheaper than disposables over a period, for the reason that they are reused.
The Diaper Wrap is another type of cloth diaper.
This consist of two separate pieces which are the cloth and the wrap. The cloth which is the absorbent part of the setup is folded and placed against the baby’s bottom. The outer wrap forms the waterproof part. And there you have it the diaper wrap system for your baby.
The Diaper Insert is another form of cloth diaper.

Wash diaper frequently either every day or every other day.
Do not use detergents as your baby may be allergic to these.
Hang out diaper preferably in the sun or place them in the dryer.
Things to avoid
Do not use chlorine bleach regularly, as this tend to break down fibers and shorten the life span of your diapers. And your baby may be allergic to this as well.
Fabric softeners should not be used either as these reduce absorbency.
How to keep your diaper looking brand new
Ø Drying in the sun is best. This will reduce and remove stains.
Ø Partially dry in the dryer and then hang dry.
Ø Bleaching makes clothes look old. Cut down drastically on the use of bleach. One can also place soaped diapers in a pan of water in the sun to soak for three hours and this too will remove stains.
Ø Do not use fabric softener.
Ø Lemon juice may be used to whiten.
Smelly Cloth Diapers – How to prevent this
Baking Soda and Vinegar is very helpful in preventing smelly diaper.
The vinegar neutralizes alkaline odors and removes alkaline-based stains. The baking soda act as a neutralizer, it neutralizes acidic odors, removes acid and protein-based stains, and softens the diapers. The baking soda can be added to the diaper pan or pail before you place the diaper in it. This will give a fresh smell.
The diapers may be left to soak overnight in your favorite soapy water.
Regular amounts of detergents may be used.
Clean poop diaper as soon as possible, by soaking overnight in baking soda.
Do a cold rinse.
If your baby is solely breastfed, you can just throw the diaper into your diaper pail. The initial cold rinse will remove the poop. This is because the poop of breastfed babies is water-soluble. However, stains will occur.

A clean cloth diaper, wipes, a diaper pail or a wet bag
1. Firstly wash and dry your hands.
2. You should then prepare the area for changing the baby, ensuring that you have the diaper, desitin and everything that you will need to change the baby should be in one place in your reach. Place the baby’s blanket for the baby to lay on.
Place the baby on the blanket. Unstrap the soiled diaper, lift the baby feet up, and gently remove it from the baby’s bottom. If you are using diaper inserts or prefold diapers along with diaper covers, and the cover is still clean and dry, only remove the soiled parts.
3. Use more than one wipes to gently clean the baby’s skin in the vicinity that is covered by the diaper. Clean genitals first. For girls ensure that you wipe from front to back to ensure that no germ is transported to the baby’s vagina.
4. Dry baby’s bottom with a soft clean cloth. This will prevent extra moisture which will cause diaper rash.
Place a clean diaper under the baby. Ensure that the bottom of the diaper, catches up to baby’s hips. Then, pull the top of the clean diaper over baby’s genitals and up to his/her belly. If baby is a newborn, fold the diaper down so as not to cover the umbilical cord because the diaper may scratch it. If you’re changing a boy, make sure his penis is pointing downwards.
Make sure that you pull the diaper evenly so there is no bunching up of the diaper as this may cause leaking to occur which may lead to chafing and other discomfort.
You should now fasten the Velcro tabs or snaps properly to prevent leaking. Put on the rest of the baby’s clothes.
Place the soiled diaper in the pail however if the baby had pooped you will need to flush the poop in the toilet and then place the soiled diaper in the pail.
Wash your hands thoroughly and that’s it.
